Messing around with Windows 7
After installing Windows 7 this week I’ve been messing around a bit with the new features like the new taskbar, how it looks, how it works etc. At first it kind of annoyed me after a while you get used to it. There are options to turn it off, but then it wouldn’t be windows 7 anymore, would it
About a month ago, before Windows 7 RC was released, i read a post that they would add a Virtual Windows XP Mode as a workaround for programs that would have or still have issues with either windows 7 and windows vista. Working in IT support where several programs are used over the different departments this is something that would be more then welcome if we would ever mass-deploy windows 7.
So after a bit searching today if found this post where you can download everything you need to setup the Virtual XP Mode in Windows 7 ![]()
Now I’m running both Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2003 (as a V-App) in the same environment
(For those wondering why you would ever do that, i just use it so i can separate my exchange mail from my personal mail on my home pc :p outlook probably isn’t the best example to show the benefits but hey, live with it
)
What does it basically do? It runs a virtual machine of Windows XP in the background and automatically publishes all the applications you install in the virtual machine to your Windows 7 Start Menu as seen in the screenshot
I’m more then eager to find out what more Windows 7 has to offer
